AbstractThis book examines the main themes in educational management and leadership, including strategy, human resources, teaching and learning, finance, external relations, and quality. The 19 chapters are divided into 7 sections: "The Context of Educational Management,""Leadership and Strategic Management,""Human Resource Management,""Managing Learning and Teaching,""Managing Finance and Resources,""Managing External Relations," and "Managing Quality in Education." The volume is intended to be helpful for students in master's and doctoral programs now available in many countries. The editors of the book chose to focus on "management" rather than leadership because it reflects their belief that "management" represents a wider range of activities involved in running successful educational organizations than the alternative terms "administration" and "leadership." Each section provides a broad look at the issues under consideration, with great sensitivity given to the international context of education. The chapters provide future educational managers information on the theory and practice of management; on leadership and the importance of vision and mission; on the management and evaluation of resources; on the creation of curricula that match a school's culture; on establishing financial credibility; on marketing and interacting with stakeholders; and on creating a school based on total quality.
