| Abstract | This guide is designed to help librarians, teachers, parents, and students learn and teach about Latinos and find appropriate reading materials by Latinos. The titles in the guide are in print and available for purchase as of the printing of this book. Most books in the guide were written for children or young adults--interest-level designations are based on various reviews and publishers. Books in the guide are of many different types, and the guide is organized to be a useful resource tool. It is divided into the following chapters: (1) Introduction (Purpose; Criteria for Inclusion; Format; Brief History of Children's and Young Adult Literature by Latinos); (2) Latino Novels and Chapter Books; (3) Latino Short Stories; (4) Latino Folklore; (5) Latino Drama; (6) Latino Poetry and Anthologies (Other Latino-Authored Anthologies); (7) Latino Nonfiction; (8) Resource Materials for Cultural Education; (9) Latino Writers of Children's and Young Adult Literature; and (10) Other Latino Writers. Appendix A contains a listing of some non-Latinos closely associated with Latino literature. Appendix B lists relevant publishers with addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and Web sites. (NKA) |
