Abstract	This book demonstrates how classroom teachers can use cooperative learning techniques for lesson planning and classroom management. It emphasizes that cooperation among students is powerful, and it notes that just because students are in a group does not mean that they are cooperating. Part 1, "Getting Started with Cooperative Learning," includes nine principles (cooperation as a value, heterogeneous grouping, positive interdependence, individual accountability, simultaneous interaction, equal participation, collaborative skills, and group autonomy). It also discusses assessment in learning. Part 2, "Frequently Asked Questions about Cooperative Learning," discuses preparing classes for cooperative learning, managing cooperative learning classes, creating cooperative learning tasks, enhancing thinking when using cooperative learning, using cooperative learning in special situations, helping groups that are not functioning well, collaborating with other teachers, and working with administrators and parents.
