Abstract | This document, which is intended as the companion to a two-volume study of European trends in the development of occupations and qualifications, contains reference materials to assist policymakers and practitioners in accessing research findings and formulations on key issues of training and development. The document begins with an overview of the study of European trends in the development of occupations and qualifications as reported and discussed in the two companion volumes. Presented next is a working glossary that contains the most important terms related to the following areas: (1) knowledge and learning; (2) competencies, qualifications, and skills; (3) basic skills and key/core competencies and qualifications; (4) recognition and validation of competencies; and (5) anticipation, forecasting, and trends in occupations and qualifications. An annotated bibliography of 181 publications on the subject of development of occupations and qualifications is presented. The bibliography includes publications in English, Danish, Finnish, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish. A wide variety of documents are annotated, including reports of research studies, trend analyses developed in the public and private sectors, monographs, literature reviews, annual reports, and program descriptions. An index of key terms used in volumes I and II and a list of 37 abbreviations conclude the document. (MN) |
