Abstract | This annual report is intended to assist parents and citizens to stay informed on the educational reforms in Kentucky schools and serves as a reference source for information concerning specific programs or areas of interest in Kentucky schools. Specific updates addressed in the report include the following: (1) assessment and school accountability; (2) early childhood programs; (3) primary school; (4) reading programs; (5) extended school services; (6) high schools; (7) career and technical education; (8) students with special needs; (9) equal opportunities in education; (10) school-based decision making; (11) family resource/youth services centers; (12) school safety; (13) technology and education; (14) professional development; (15) teacher preparation and the Education Professional Standards Board; (16) school finance; (17) governance; (18) alternative school schedules and calendars; and (19) parent involvement. Most of these sections of the report provide information on: the basics of the law; what is new in the current year; what parents and citizens might expect to see as a result of the changes; how to become involved; and a list of sources for more information.
