Abstract | This monograph contains the invited papers of the major speakers at the Educational Policy Institutes Second Annual International Conference in Quality in Higher Education held at Exeter College, University of Oxford, England in the summer of 2001. The purpose of the conference was to discuss how quality is being defined, measured, and ensured in the context of higher education. The papers are: (1) "Oxford and Quality Assurance in Great Britain" (John Sayer); (2) "Oxford, Bologna and Bruegels Bee-Master" (Liesbeth van Welie); (3) "Measures of Quality in Higher Education--An American Perspective" (Marc A. vanderHeyden); (4) "Measuring Quality in Regional Universities: A Call for Appropriate Standards" (Russell C. Long); (5) "A Case Study in Changing Academic Standards" (Gerald E. Lang, Russell K. Dean, and Rosemary R. Haggett); (6) "The Impact of Faculty Retirement on the Quality of the Academy" (Valerie Martin Conley); (7) "April Is the Cruelest Month: Maintaining High Quality While Replacing Retiring Faculty" (Charlotte Stokes); (8) "Living Near the Edge: Improving the Quality of Strategic Decision-Making Regarding Academic Programs and Information Technology" (John C. Cavanaugh); (9) "Political Realities for Leaders with a Quality Agenda for Educational Institutions" (Mary Ellen Drushal); and (10) "Synthesis and Epilogue" (Steven M. Janosik).
