Abstract | A study circle is a group of diverse members of a community who meet with a facilitator to find common ground for solutions and actions. The Study Circles Resource Center proposes a program of Community-Wide Study Circles to talk about student success and develop ideas for action in the community and schools. This brochure provides a rational for study circles and offers appropriate discussion materials. The program described involves four meeting sessions with the following discussion topics: (1) What does a good education mean to each of us? (2) Why are some of our students not succeeding? (3) Picturing a community where all students can do their best; and (4) What specific actions do we want to take? The brochure provides a section with starting points for discussion, sample viewpoints, and facilitator tips for each of the four sessions. The final section of the brochure compiles additional tips for participants and facilitators, a description and typical agenda of the action forum that follows a round of study circles, and a bibliography of resources for further discussion and action.
