AbstractThis trend manual contains data about the Peralta Community College District (PCCD) in California. Data cover the District's service area; students, including enrollment, demographics, success, and outcomes; instructional programs; and faculty and staff. In addition, the report addresses various accountability measures adopted by both the state and federal government, the state chancellor's office, and accrediting agencies. The PCCD serves the six cities in northern Alameda County. The ethnic composition of these cities varies from 35% African American and 24% White in Oakland, to 77% White and 16% Asian/Pacific Islander in Piedmont. In the fall of the year 2000, 30% of PCCD's enrollment was African American, 24% Asian/Pacific Islander, 12% Hispanic, 1% Native American, and 22% White. Students enrolled in Peralta colleges were most likely to be either traditional college age (19-24, 35%), or in their middle years (35-54, 23%). In the year 2000, district enrollment was 60% female and 39% male, compared with 58% female and 42% male in 1994. In addition, 25% of PCCD students were enrolled full time, with 63% of students enrolled in day classes. The goal of 27% of PCCD students was to transfer, 5% were aiming for a degree or certificate, 23% are learning job skills, 19% were attending for educational enrichment, 2% were attending to acquire basic skills, and 24% attend for other reasons. Includes numerous tables and figures. (NB)
