Abstract | This document contains the teacher and student texts and student workbook for a secondary-level course in shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and carbon arc cutting that consists of units on the following topics: SMAW safety; SMAW equipment, applications, and techniques; hardfacing; and carbon arc cutting--air. The teacher edition includes the following items: (1) a training and competency profile for use in recording information about individual students; (2) a national skills and/or state duty/task crosswalk identifying skill standards covered by unit and objective; (3) an instruction/task analysis reviewing the cognitive and psychomotor skills addressed; (4) basic skills icons and classifications; (5) a basic skill matrix summarizing the academic and workplace skills training included in the course; (6) a list of needed tools, equipment and materials; (7) suggested activities; (8) assignment sheet answers; (9) written tests; (10) test answers; (11) teacher supplements; and (12) transparency masters. The student edition contains learning activities, objective and information sheets, and student supplements. The student workbook presents 37 job sheets accompanying the course's four units. Each job sheet contains some or all of the following items: objective; list of basic skills covered; instructions for completing the job sheet; list of required tools, equipment, and materials; detailed procedures; and specifications.
