Top stories include: President Bush responds to the recent acts of terrorism in Israel, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon declares war against terrorism and Egyptian and Jordanian leaders convene an emergency summit, Israel continues to pound Palestinian targets, Afghan delegates finalize an agreement for an interim post-Taliban administration, and the Taliban's supreme leader will surrender Kandahar on Friday and the first of the wounded U.S. soldiers receives treatment in Germany (December 3-7); new evidence points to Osama bin Laden in the September 11th attacks, anti-Taliban forces close in on al Qaeda positions, the U.S. attorney general issues the first indictment against the terrorists of September 11th, a U.S. bomber crew is safe after its plane crashes into the Indian Ocean, and U.S. officials release the videotape implicating Osama bin Laden in the September 11th attacks (December 10-14); Eastern Alliance commanders claim that most al Qaeda fighters have fled Tora Bora, the U.S. Embassy opens in Kabul and U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld visits Brussels, Belgium, finding Mullah Omar is not a priority for local Afghan rebels, the search for Osama bin Laden continues, and controversy surrounds the allocation of relief funds to September 11th victims' families (December 17-21).
