Abstract | This document showcases 129 exemplary workforce development-related programs at elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, adult centers, school districts, vocational-technical centers, and two- and four-year colleges in 15 counties in Florida's western panhandle region. The 15 counties are: (1) Bay; (2) Calhoun; (3) Escambia; (4) Franklin; (5) Gadsden; (6) Gulf; (7) Holmes; (8) Jackson; (9) Leon; (10) Liberty; (11) Okaloosa; (12) Santa Rose; (13) Wakulla; (14) Walton; and (15) Washington. The following are among the programs profiled: writing program for middle school students; marine science field program for grade 7; career academies in occupational areas such as hospitality and tourism, food production, health occupations, and communications technology; Job Training Partnership Act program to train corrections officers; banking and finance youth apprenticeship; career planning; workforce preparation programs for adults, migrant workers, and special needs students; educators in the workplace program; Army junior reserve officers training corp; girl power program; business education program offering hands-on computer training; career fair; business ownership program; school-to-work curriculum reform; curriculum for adults with special needs; program to recruit and retain high school dropouts; program for teacher discussion and development of technology standards; school-to-work comprehensive plan; leadership skills program; and worker certification program.
