Abstract	Reading and writing are interrelated. What has been read provides material for writing. This paper focuses on reading endeavors that provide subject matter for writing. The paper first recommends reading poetry to the class and states that the teacher should have ready for use an anthology of children's literature. Children can write poems for holidays and for other subjects, such as science, math, art, music, and physical education. The paper also recommends students becoming proficient in writing letters, both business and friendly letters. Writing play parts for dramatic endeavors can be challenging as well as interesting for students. Novels need to be on the reading level of students to be beneficial for comprehension purposes, and written work pertaining to the novel can help in organizing the contents since students can write about characterization, setting, plot, irony, and the theme. Expository reading might also provide students with a good opportunity to organize ideas for writing. Teachers need to add to the list of reading and writing experiences as the need and occasion arises. And quality sequence in learning must be emphasized so that each student might experience success in learning to perceive the reading/writing connections. Contains 9 references. (NKA)
