Abstract | This document suggests facilities necessary to conduct instruction in arts programs in grades 9-12 and conveys essential features that should be present. As a reference document for school facilities designers, it describes arts education programs and the facilities that support them, with some sections focusing on the concepts and features common to most or all arts education subject areas, and others describing requirements peculiar to the individual areas of dance, music, theater arts, and visual arts. Sample floors are also provided and generally represent the top end of the facilities spectrum and reflect spaces that are ideal for maximum implementation of the standard state course of study. Appendices contain arts education program descriptions; the cubic volume for choral and instrumental music rooms; design issues for a comprehensive music education delivery system at the high school level; and sample plans for dance, general music, choral music, instrumental music, electronic keyboard lab, theater arts classroom, black box arena, theater arts laboratory/auditoriums, visual arts classroom/studio, and the photography lab. Additional resources are included. (GR) |
