Abstract | This guide in English and Spanish is designed to answer questions parents may have about the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL), including how it will help improve their children's education, how it is scored, and how to use the information it provides. In Washington, clear educational goals for subject content, thinking skills, and student attitudes guide education. The WASL includes routine classroom assessments and standardized norm-referenced tests, the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and the Iowa Test of Educational Development. Sections of this report are: (1) "Introduction"; (2) "How To Read the Score Report"; (3) "Essential Learning and Test Examples" (reading, writing, and mathematics for grades 4, 7, and 10); (4) "Questions and Answers"; and (5) "What Parents Can Do." Two appendixes contain a sample Student Achievement Profile and a list of sources of information. (SLD) |
