AbstractThis statewide fact book contains general statistical information about public community and technical colleges in Texas. Each section of the report begins with a statewide summary, which generally includes graphical representation of observations. Following the statewide summary in each section, detailed institutional information is presented in tabular form. Sections include: (1) annual enrollment; (2) fall enrollment; (3) first-time-in-college (FTIC) enrollment; (4) remediation; (5) FTIC cohort tracking analysis; (6) transfer and retention; (7) placement data; (8) contact hours/semester credit hours; (9) degrees/certificates awarded; (10) faculty and staff; (11) financial data and service area population; and (12) an appendix containing explanatory notes. Enrollment sections describe enrollment trends as well as recent enrollment figures by academic majors, gender, ethnicity, tuition status, and special populations. Sections on remediation, transfer and retention, placement, faculty and staff, and financial data and service area population refer to 1998-99 data. Overall findings include: (1) the statewide majority of student enrollments are White (56%), with Hispanics accounting for 25% and Blacks 12% of student enrollment; and (2) academic majors accounted for 59% (technical majors comprised 41%) of total FTIC enrollments (compared to 62% and 35% respectively in fall 1998).
