| Abstract | "Speaking Personally" is the generic name given to one of the regular features of "The American Journal of Distance Education"--AJDE--an interview with a leading personality in the field. As implied in the title, interviewees have always been encouraged to talk in a relatively informal way. Since an interview has been reported in every issue of the AJDE since its founding, this volume, which brings these interviews together in one book, provides a virtual chronology of the evolution of distance education in America over the past 14 years. In this book are interviews with two of the best-known fathers an one founding mother; leaders of universities, corporate training institutes, public broadcasting, community colleges, the armed forces, and government agencies; university and college administrators; distinguished scholars; policymakers; and heads of national and international agencies. Nearly every communication medium is represented, from print-based home study, broadcasting, and audio and videoconferencing to computer conferencing and the Internet. (AEF) |
