Abstract | This kit of training strategies and case studies is designed to help trainers to become more successful with their communication and training in the tourism and hospitality industry and to train employees with low language, literacy, and numeracy skills more effectively and efficiently. It is intended for trainers who do some on-the-job skills training but for whom training is not the main part of their job. The kit is divided into three sections. Section 1 has three parts that provide strategies and information for before starting training, while training, and when assessing. Section 2 presents six case studies designed to stimulate discussion and ideas on ways to make training and communication in the multicultural workplace more effective and more accessible. The questions for each case study are intended to assist trainers to plan and conduct workshops. Some responses and strategies for improving communication are suggested. Section 3 contains these appendixes: a list of nine organizations which can provide information on workplace skills training; a list of suggested courses for language, literacy, and numeracy; a list of nine bookshops for language, literacy, and numeracy books; and an annotated list of eight books, videos, and CD-ROMs. (YLB) |
