| Abstract | This curriculum project, using research and literary and historical perspectives, seeks to help students develop an awareness of the rich cultural diversity of Mexico through studying the mythology of the Aztec people. Through literature and storytelling, students see how mythology is often about real people and events and woven into the fabric of a culture. The aim is to instill in students a reverence for the past with an appreciation for the customs and traditions that continue into the 20th century. The project discusses original sources available to recount Aztec mythology and then traces the historical background of the Aztecs. It details many diverse Aztec legends and creation beliefs. The project concludes that the Aztec myths are part of the cultural legacy that the Mexican people of today have inherited. Contains 16 notes, 9 sources, and 12 children's literature selections.
