AbstractThis addendum, developed at the request of the U.S. Department of Education, provides information to schools, school districts, states, and others as they plan and implement comprehensive school-reform programs under the Obey-Porter Comprehensive School Reform Demonstration (CSRD) program. The CSRD legislation encourages schools to consider research-based, effective reform models as they develop their comprehensive school-reform programs. This document, which features 20 models, is neither a set of recommended models nor a set of models approved for CSRD funding. Each model was carefully screened by a panel of experts before its inclusion. However, the models are not described in enough detail for school personnel to make fully informed decisions about the models' merits or their applicability to particular school conditions. The examples are presented in two sections: entire-school reform models, and skill- and content-based reform models, which includes reading/language arts, mathematics, science, and other subjects. Each model description features the origin and scope of the program; further information such as results, implementation assistance, costs, student populations, and special considerations are also included. Four appendices list resources and information on components of comprehensive school-reform programs. (Contains 12 references.) (RJM)
