Abstract | This manual was developed as a guide for community college faculty and administrators who are seminar leaders working with faculty groups in an attempt to integrate academic and career-related education. It contains presentation plans for 10 3-hour seminars, including purpose, time sequence, key concepts, activities, and handouts. The seminars cover the following topics: (1) purposes of integrating academic and career-related education; (2) models of integration; (3) strategies for facilitating collaboration; (4) content and modes of assessment; (5) infusing study skills into career-related courses; (6) facilitating collaboration through interviews and observations; (7) facilitating transfer of knowledge across settings; (8) professional communication skills for students; (9) ongoing support for integrated instruction; and (10) implementation and evaluation of integrated instruction. The guide contains 38 references, 2 appendixes that provide classroom examples from case studies of academic-occupational integration in community colleges, and a table of employability skills.
