| Abstract | This bulletin reviews the results of a survey of college administrators and security officials by the Harvard School of Public Health concerning their schools' policies regarding alcohol problems on campus. A total of 529 respondents from 347 public and private four-year institutions were asked to complete a mailed questionnaire which examined institutional policies and practices, alcohol problems on campus, current alcohol education programs, and policy enforcement. Comparisons were made between schools which had major problems and those that had minor problems. Three problem-oriented strategies were offered for stronger enforcement of the minimum age drinking law, including: (1) identifying on-campus locations where underage drinking was occurring and taking meaningful disciplinary action against those serving alcohol to minors; (2) establishing a policy of zero tolerance for the fake IDs students were using to purchase alcohol; and (3) taking firm disciplinary steps, including probation, fines, community service, suspension, and/or expulsion, against students who drive or commit other infractions while under the influence.
