| Abstract | Lesson plans for teaching elementary students about archaeology are provided in this book. The lessons are designed to encourage students to practice the development of critical thinking skills through synthesizing, analyzing, evaluating, hypothesizing, applying, and deductive and inductive reasoning. Lesson and instructional materials, and 13 chapters are organized into five units: (1) "The Archaeological Record"; (2) "Interpreting the Artifacts"; (3) "A Look at Culture"; (4) "What is a Civilization?"; and (5) "Archaeological Dating Methods." Each lesson includes introductory information, and guided and independent opportunities to practice the concepts presented. Student activities and reproducible worksheets are provided.
