| Abstract | A discussion of literary works can aid in the development of civic understanding among elementary school children. This resource provides reviews for more than 100 children's literature titles. Each entry includes grade level and bibliographic information. Teaching guides are provided for 20 titles and include a summary of the story, suggestions for introducing the title, discussion questions, and follow-up activities. Three titles are featured that serve as centerpieces for thematic units designed to increase student understanding of citizenship. The titles are (1) "Freedom of Expression"; (2) "What Makes a Good Citizen?"; and (3) "Equal and Equitable: What's the Difference." Contains 14 references and a title index. (WG) |
