Abstract	This resource provides practical instructions for applying color and design directly to fabric. Basic information about the dye painting process is given. The guide addresses the technical aspects of fabric dye and color use and offers suggestions for fabric manipulation and dye application in order to achieve various design effects. This information is organized in seven chapters: (1) "What Is Dye Painting?"; (2) "The Method"; (3) "The Materials"; (4) "The Colors"; (5) "The Applications"; (6) "Gallery," which includes color plates of sample designs and projects; and (7) "Questions and Answers," which addresses common problems encountered by students and practicing dye artists. Exercises given in each chapter encourage experimentation with presented techniques and processes. Appendices give variations of processes and list mail-order sources.
