Abstract	This compendium contains evaluation briefs on 49 youth programs that were assessed by the American Youth Policy Forum. The programs were selected because they demonstrate that careful application of the following principles can lead to powerful results for youth: adult support, structure, and expectations; creative forms of learning; combination of guidance and rich connections to the workplace; support and follow-up; belief that youth are resources; and emphasis on implementation quality. Three types of programs are profiled: extended learning programs for young people enrolled in school and for out-of-school youth; programs that build on the community; and programs designed to increase retention and postsecondary education options. Among the types of programs profiled are the following: academies of finance; alternative schools; career academies; dropout prevention and vocational education; rural entrepreneurship, school-to-work; apprenticeship; summer youth employment; talent development; youth apprenticeship; and programs for minority female single parents. Each summary includes some or all of the following: population served; evidence of program's effectiveness; key components; factors contributing to program effectiveness; study methodology; geographic area(s) served; and contact information. Concluding the compendium are a paper titled "Implications for Youth Policy" (Robert J. Ivry) and a bibliography of 67 program evaluations. (MN)
