AbstractThe four games in this booklet are designed to stimulate critical thinking about the effects of structural and cultural issues on society and on the process of social change. The first and original game, "The Growth Game," gives participants a hands-on experience with the basic theoretical constructs of a Marxian critique of the mainstream tenets of economic growth. Developed for community organizers and "development workers" from the United States, Asia, Africa and Latin America, the game helps players to understand the impact of inequality on economic opportunity and the "dependency" critiques of the economics most students have learned. The remaining three games were created to fit other audiences and cultural contexts and address different dimensions of power and inequality. The games include: "The Power Game"; "The Class and Gender Game"; and "The Education and Gender Game." All four variations share the same goal of offering participants the opportunity to grapple with the impact of historical inequalities in power, resources, and other valued social goods. Complete instructions for play are included in the booklet. (EH)
