| Abstract | The California Early Childhood Mentor Teacher Program matches experienced child care teachers with high school and community college students in child care and development who want direct experience working with young children. This 12-minute video describes the program's annual Institute for Early Childhood Mentors, during which current and potential mentor teachers find out more about how the mentor program works and take part in training sessions addressing the stress of mentoring and early childhood care. The video presents mentor teachers sharing their experiences and talking about the challenges and benefits of mentoring intern teachers in early childhood. The video also reflects on the need for advocacy--promoting the mentoring program to parents, administrators, and legislators as a way to enhance child caregivers' skills and increase professionalization of the early childhood field.
