AbstractThe Maine Environmental Priorities Project (MEPP) is a comparative risk project designed to identify, compare, and rank the most serious environmental problems facing Maine. Once the problems are analyzed and ranked according to their threat or risk to Maine's ecological health, human health, and quality of life, the project will propose environmental protection priorities which take into consideration scientific information and public values. The technical reports included in this document do not contain policy recommendations and there are no proposed courses of action for addressing the identified risks. Rather, they focus on the identification and measurement of risk without regard to the problems associated with possible actions for addressing the risks. These reports were prepared by a group of volunteers having expertise in areas of interest to the project and representing diverse viewpoints. Reports include: Outdoor Air; Global Climate Change; Stratospheric Ozone Depletion; Surface Water and Sediments; Ground Water; Drinking Water at the Tap; Land and Agricultural Resources; Maine's Built and Natural Landscape; Terrestrial Ecosystems; Freshwater and Marine Ecosystems; Indoor Air; Exposure to Toxins in the Work Place; Solid, Special, and Hazardous Waste; and Radiation.
