Abstract | These lessons, designed for high school classrooms, focus on the country of Germany in teaching the five themes of geography (location, place, human-environment interaction, movement, and region). The lessons can be used individually via integration into the curriculum or collectively used as a complete stand-alone unit. The lessons are desigend to support the teaching of courses in World Geography, U.S. Government/Civics, and Economics from a comparative United States/Germany perspective. Each lesson begins with an outline for teaching that includes instructional objectives, a list of necessary materials, and a sequenced list of procedures for using the activities provided with the lesson. Lessons include: (1) "Location of Germany on the Earth's Surface"; (2) "Physical and Human Characteristics of Germany"; (3) "The Interaction of the German People and Their Environment"; (4) "Cultural Diversity in Germany"; and (5) "German Unification and Regional Changes."
