| Abstract | This document contains project-oriented lessons and hands-on activities developed to integrate steel recycling, natural resource conservation, and solid waster management into science learning. It is designed to assist secondary teachers and students (grades 9-12) in meeting state and local goals for learning in biology, chemistry, general science and earth science, and physics. The first lesson, "Supply & Demand" includes the activities "Reducing Food Spoilage and Waste" and "Space Food." The activities included in the second lesson concerning "Collect & Haul" are "Leachate Collection" and "Composing with Worms.""Bones and Levers" and "The Color of Hot Metals" are the activities included with the third lesson concerning the topic "Sort & Produce." Also included is a cross-reference chart of activities to biology concepts and critical thinking skills, glossary, student worksheets, a 17-item resource list, and a teacher evaluation form.
