Abstract | This book, part of the "Exploring the Constitution Series," provides a basic introduction to important areas of constitutional law. Each volume contains a general introduction to a particular constitutional issue combined with excerpts from significant Supreme Court decisions in that area. The text of the Constitution, a chronological listing of the Supreme Court justices, and a glossary of legal terms are included in each volume. The controversial topic of search and seizure is explored in this volume. The rights of citizens to be free from invasions of privacy and the needs of law enforcement to apprehend and prosecute criminals are explored in light of Supreme Court and lower court decisions in these areas. The eight chapters in this volume are: (1) "Introduction"; (2)"Protecting Property and Privacy"; (3) "Searching Homes and Businesses"; (4) "Searching and Seizing People in Public Places"; (5) "Searching and Seizing Automobiles and Baggage"; (6) "The Exclusionary Rule"; (7) "Privacy beyond Search and Seizure"; and (8) "The Fourth Amendment Today."
