Abstract	This report provides statistical information on minority undergraduate participation in postsecondary education and postsecondary persistence among racial-ethnic groups, based on the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS). The data indicate that, after a dramatic increase in minority enrollment in the 1960s and 1970s, there was uneven progress made in the 1980s. The proportion of black students enrolled in institutions of higher education decreased from 9.2 percent in 1980 to 8.9 percent in 1990. Among black undergraduates, nearly two-thirds were women, compared with 53 percent of Hispanics and 55 percent of Whites. The report also indicates that black students were more likely to be enrolled in private, for-profit institutions and less likely to be enrolled in 4-year institutions than white students. Undergraduates who attended historically black colleges and universities were more likely to aspire to an advanced degree than were students at other 4-year institutions. Persistence rates for 1989-90 beginning postsecondary students pursuing a bachelor's degree tended to be higher for Asian/Pacific Islander students than for black students. Statistics on college choice and student financial aid are also included. Two appendixes contain a glossary and technical notes on methodology. (MDM)
