Abstract	A study examined the supply and demand for business teachers for public schools in Illinois. Data from these sources were analyzed: employment projections by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, information about current and projected business education teacher positions throughout Illinois, demographic data about the state's current force of business education, and current and projected business education teaching positions. The analysis established that, although there has been a decline in the number of business teaching positions in Illinois public high schools, the pattern will change to the point where the demand will outstrip the supply of newly certified teachers produced by higher education institutions in Illinois. The Illinois Business Teacher Educators Council (IBTEC) recommended that state policymakers and business and industry representatives form a blue ribbon task force to analyze the current context and environment for business teacher preparation programs and formulate their own recommendations to the Illinois Board of Higher Education regarding business teacher preparation program strategic quality goals, organizing principles and delivery structures, and funding sources and levels. Appended are the following: state board regions of Illinois by county; monthly lists of business education job listings throughout Illinois from January 1994 through October 1994; and IBTEC bylaws.
