Abstract	It is argued that while Georgi Lozanov's suggestology and suggestopedic methods are informed by work in the field of suggestion in the former Soviet bloc, his work has also been influenced by work on suggestion in the west, particularly in France, where suggestion is a more controversial technique. For Lozanov, suggestion is a normal phenomenon and a positive concept. His contribution was not only in linking suggestion to education, but also of integrating many types of suggestion (direct, indirect, command, relax, verbal, nonverbal, group, environmental) into the educational process and directing suggestion toward liberating the unconscious reserves of the human mind. The suggestopedic method for language teaching incorporates these theoretical elements: authority of the teacher; prestige of institution; infantilization; double-planeness; rhythm; intonation; and concert pseudo-passivity or receptivity. In the classroom, various forms of suggestion are used to create maximum learning effect. Experience indicates that use of suggestion techniques in the classroom can benefit students both academically and personally, and that the subject of suggestion in education should be of greater concern and the object of more research in western education.
