AbstractA job analysis was conducted of the knowledge and skills important for the competent performance of beginning business education teachers. The results of this job analysis will be used to define the content domain of the subject assessment in Business Education for the Praxis Series of professional assessments for beginning teachers. A domain of 207 important knowledge and skill statements was developed by subject-matter experts. These statements were then incorporated into a survey completed by over 1,000 business education teachers, administrators, and teacher educators. These business education professionals rated the knowledge and skill statements using a five-point scale. Statements were then judged to have a mean importance rating equal to or greater than 2.5 (midpoint of the scale) were considered eligible for inclusion in the subject assessment. Of the 207 knowledge statements and skill statements, 17 had mean ratings of less than 2.5 across all groups. Emphasis in test development should be placed on the 190 knowledge or skill statements that passed the 2.5 cut point. Six tables present study findings, and seven appendixes contain supplemental information. (Contains 16 references.) (Author/SLD)
