AbstractThis consumer and family economics curriculum guide was developed for use in home economics education in Texas. At the beginning is a list of the competencies and the subcompetencies that are the essential elements and the subelements prescribed in the Texas Administrative Codes for Vocational Home Economics. The conceptual outline as shown in the left-hand column of the guide (with corresponding learning and evaluation experiences in the right-hand column) relates to the subelement of each unit. Teaching aids keyed to the learning and evaluation experiences are located at the end of the guide. These codes are used: C for developing skill within the Common Elements to all vocational education courses; B for application of basic/academic skills; "Key Question" for key points for content discussion and review; and "Critical Question" for methods of developing critical thinking skills. The seven units cover the following topics: family economics; consumers in the economy; role of government; consumer purchasing and assertiveness; obtaining income; protecting family economic security; and consumer careers. Twelve references are listed. An academic integration supplement (June 1994) accompanies the curriculum guide. It contains learning and evaluation experiences specifically designed to integrate mathematics, science, language arts, and social studies principles within the consumer and family economics course of study.
