Abstract | this document consists of the first 13 issues of a series published annually to give employers an indication of the potential black manpower in the schools of South Africa and the estimated flow of black manpower from the schools. Information is supplied in the spirit of the Manpower 2000 Project to ensure employment in southern Africa. The publication's purpose is to present the reader with a concise picture of formal school education in South Africa (the Republic of South Africa, plus the four independent states). As education in South Africa was still racially based during 1992, and therefore divided into education departments for Blacks, Coloreds, Asians, and Whites, the statistics reflect these divisions. It must, however, be kept in mind that while there might be pupils attending schools in departments for other races, the differentiation between the races is based on departments only. For instance, a black child in a white education department would have counted as a white child. The goal of this booklet is to put people interested in education in a position to draw not only sensible conclusions, but also to be enlightened to the real situation of education in South Africa as far as numbers, performance, and, to a lesser extent, facilities are concerned. The reports contain numerous tables representing various educational statistics for the different racial groups in South Africa. Some of these include population distribution, pupil enrollment, and enrollment forecasts. Maps include South African educational regions, and development regions. Appendixes include addresses for departments of education, universities, and teacher training colleges, divided by race. A diagram of the decentralized education structure in South Africa and the independent states of Transkei, Bophuthatswana, Venda, and Ciskei is included in the 1992 volume. (SLD/DK) |
