Abstract | A research study looked at the effect of vocational training on the ability of 151 released felons who had successfully completed vocational training and were still under supervision, on parole, within New Hampshire. A literature review on recidivism and vocational education in corrections showed the value of vocational training in reducing recidivism by producing inmates with marketable skills who can find employment. An anonymous, voluntary attitude/opinion survey was mailed to the parolees; 10 surveys (6.6 percent) were completed and returned. Results indicated that the majority of respondents were satisfied with programming. A conclusion from the information gathered in this survey was that the programs were having a positive effect. A longer-term study with a larger population was recommended. (Appendixes include five references, budget and project schedule, survey instrument and letter, analysis of findings, and respondent comments.) (YLB) |
