Abstract | These guides are designed for use by early childhood teachers in conjunction with four popular children's books, providing teachers with lesson plans and activities to develop their students' thinking skills. Each guide focuses on a specific book and skill as follows: (1) the guide for "The Jolly Postman or Other People's Letters" emphasizes the whole language approach to teaching writing skills; (2) the guide for "The Paper Bag Princess" emphasizes predicting skills; (3) the guide for "Pigs" emphasizes sequencing skills; and (4) the guide for "The Velveteen Rabbit" emphasizes self-esteem. The guides also contain ideas for integrating the books and lessons across the curriculum. (MDM) |
