Abstract | The book provides over 1,200 conversation topics for English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) instruction, grouped into six kinds of conversation activities. An introductory chapter describes the monitored conversation procedure, a classroom technique for recognizing language usage errors and reinforcing the correct form or vocabulary item. Subsequent chapters contain the six types of classroom conversation activity, described in some detail, with a list of recommended conversation topics for that activity type. The activities include: role-plays; interviews; chain stories; talks (self-expression, personal narrative); problem-solving; and discussion. A method for teachers to use in organizing activities and keeping records is also outlined. (MSE) |
