Abstract | This document consists of the woodyard skills handbook and an employee handbook for woodyard employees of Boise Cascade. The handbooks are products of a National Workplace Literacy project conducted by Alabama Southern Community College. The woodyard skills handbook contains information needed by employees to improve math, measurement, vocabulary, and comprehension skills to reach the level required to move onto the woodyard training program on the computer. Section I discusses reasons for the handbook. Section II lists all words from the woodyard that are necessary to complete the computerized technical training. Section III is a general review of rules for dealing with fractions. Section IV is a general review of rules for measurement. Section V contains all forms used in the woodyard. Each form has a summary page that lists who completes it, math required, other related documents, and special instructions. A blank copy and a completed copy follow. Section VI provides general examples of the types of reading comprehension questions which appear on the computer. The employee handbook covers topics that introduce employees to skills that can help them achieve the right mix for new or continued employment. Five sections address continuous improvement, team building, brainstorming, active communication, and diversity. Fifteen sources are cited. (YLB) |
