AbstractA study guide for the Child Development Associate (CDA) Professional Preparation Program, this book contains essential information on the basics of good professional practice for early childhood educators. It includes self-study activities, checklists, and resources for additional information. Unit 1 provides an overview of the early childhood teaching profession. The basics of child development are covered in unit 2, while unit 3 offers advice on providing a safe, healthy learning environment. Unit 4 discusses ways to support children's social and emotional development. Steps to advance children's physical and intellectual competence are outlined in unit 5, and unit 6 provides keys to establishing productive relationships with families. Unit 7 offers general advice on professional responsibilities such as planning, decision-making, management, and continuing education to the new early childhood professional working with preschoolers. Unit 8 provides information on preparation for the final assessment as a Preschool CDA. Units 7 and 8 are then repeated for those CDA candidates specializing in work with infants and toddlers or in family day care. (TJQ)
