Abstract | This collection of supplementary lessons about Japan is organized into four sections: writing skills; visual arts; games, music, and other arts; and social studies. Each lesson lists appropriate grade level, objective, materials needed, time required, and procedure. The following titles from each section are representative of the lessons: Writing Skills: Descriptive writing, Writing Japanese stories, Hiroshima--introduction to a unit; Visual Arts: Duruma-San, Kokeshi dolls, What is a Japanese family crest?; Games, Music and Other Arts: National anthem of Japan, Japanese folktales; Social Studies: Geography of Japan, Ethnocentrism, Washington's trade with Japan. This guide also includes tips on Japanese pronunciation and a list of selected resources for teaching about Japan. (DB) |
