Abstract | Proceedings of a seminar on the management of English second language training (ELT) in British technical assistance programs are presented in the form of narrative summaries. An introductory section gives an overview of the conference. Four subsequent chapters summarize presentations and discussions on these topics: project management, documentation, coordination, and evaluation; the views on project sustainability of the British overseas aid agency, the private ELT sector, and a construction firm involved in projects in developing countries; case studies for Sri Lanka, Kenya, East Malaysia, and Ethiopia; and suggestions for ways the British Council can help enhance project longevity. Appended materials include an article entitled "Pulling Out of a Project: Twelve Tips for Project Planners" (Paul Woods); a framework for planning and evaluating projects; a chart of typical project structures; a list of participants; and a seminar schedule.
