Abstract | This vocational program guide is intended to assist in the organization, operation, and evaluation of a program in electromechanical technology in school districts, area vocational centers, and community colleges. The following topics are covered: job duties of electromechanical technicians; program content (curriculum framework and student performance standards); program implementation (student admission criteria, cooperative education, and student organization participation); instructional resources; facilities (facility design recommendations and safety, maintenance, and liability); suggested equipment; and professional development (technical updating and teacher standards and related professional organizations and support services). A Career Merit Achievement Plan (Career MAP) for use in recording the progress of students enrolled in an electromechanical technology program is packaged with the program guide. Included in the Career MAP are a list of relevant job titles, overview of the MAP and directions for using it, guidelines for rating student performance standards, and charts detailing the various subcompetencies of the electromechanical technology skills and work environment readiness skills covered in the electromechanical technology program.
