Abstract | This document consists of a curriculum guide combined with separately published "Simulations" and "Test Bank" volumes designed to support instructors using the curriculum guide. The curriculum guide for "business computer applications I" provides office education instructors with detailed units of instruction correlated directly to the essential elements mandated by the Texas Education Agency. The 13 units are divided into 6 sections that may be considered as the instructor's guide for the units. The following are section topics: introduction to business computer applications I, word processing, electronic spreadsheets, database management, computer communication tools, and social implications of computer usage. A final section provides a closure and includes a review. Components of each section are as follows: (1) essential elements covered in the section; (2) suggested unit lesson plan that consists of the objective page, content outline, suggested teacher activities (general teacher preparation, teacher presentation, reteach activities, specific teaching activities); (3) handouts; (4) transparencies; (5) activity and competency test matrices; (6) competency tests; (7) answers to activities and competency tests; (8) list of resources; and (9) competency checklist. The unit pages are considered the student guide and include objectives/competencies, focus, terminology list, unit overview, and learning activities. Appendixes have the following contents: reference addresses, office education course descriptions, office education essential elements, suggested equipment list, suggested plan and format for lesson plan development, course competency checklist, suggested modifications for special needs, information on the 2+2+2 articulation project, and supplementary unit for Section I.
