Abstract	Views of school administrators about the future of American education and ways to improve it are presented in this booklet. The first section describes conditions of American education that must be addressed, such as leadership, collaboration, productivity, family environment, and learning. The second section outlines the America 2000 plan in terms of a four-part strategy and the six national education goals. Twelve recommendations contributed by a panel of educational leaders are explored in the third section. The panel posed numerous questions and developed position statements, some of which involve the following areas--new schools and world class standards, achievement tests, professional development, school-based management, school choice, differential pay for teachers, alternative teacher and principal certification, research and development, school/community collaboration, information networking, and adult education. However, the America 2000 plan lacks discussion of the federal role in dealing with social and economic conditions, curriculum outside the five core subjects, accountability, technological development, research agenda, and funding. The report concludes with a call for presidential leadership. Blue ribbon panel members are listed. (LMI)
