| Abstract | This report focuses on the flow of trainees and the financing of the training schemes for adult continuing vocational education in Belgium. Because of lack of time and the complex nature of vocational education in the country, only preliminary results are reported. The first three chapters of the report describe training as it exists now. The first chapter discusses three types of vocational training: social advancement training, apprenticeships, and training schemes organized by the national employment office. It also covers two other types of training--evening courses offered by universities, and private courses. Chapter 2 examines training which has been organized by industry, often in collaboration with trade unions, based on data gathered by six exploratory investigations divided between industrial and tertiary sectors. The third chapter describes the measures introduced recently to combat unemployment. The final chapter puts forward a number of questions for discussion, such as: What are the problems of this nebulous educational area? How are they intertwined? and What should be done to obtain better information in order to take action? (KC) |
