Abstract | Four goals for quality art education are identified in this Kansas State curriculum guide: (1) develop knowledge and appreciation of art and culture; (2) develop perceptual skills for basic learning, as well as for aesthetic evaluation and artistic decision-making; (3) develop an understanding of the artistic process and skills vital to visual expression; and (4) develop thinking skills that are utilized in visual art experiences and extend to daily life. The bulk of the document contains sample units and lesson plans, and concepts and objectives for grades K-12. A section on special education offers a position statement and tips for working with gifted and handicapped children. An appendix with sections on art terms, a bibliography, and evaluation tools is included. (KM) |
