Abstract | Standardized curricula are provided for two courses for the secondary vocational education program in Mississippi: cosmetology I and II. The 18 units in cosmetology I are as follows: introduction to cosmetology; Vocational Industrial Clubs of America; the look you like; bacteriology; sterilization and sanitation; hair and disorders; draping, shampooing, and rinsing; scalp and hair care; nails and disorders of nails; manicuring; hair shaping; finger waving; hair styling; wigs; thermal hair styling; permanent waving; chemical waving; and hair coloring. Cosmetology II consists of 13 units: review of cosmetology I; skin and disorders; facials, massages; facial makeup, eyelashes, and superfluous hair removal; cells; skeletal; muscular system; nervous system; circulatory system; other body systems; electricity and light therapy; chemistry; and salon management. Each unit consists of these components: objectives, with core/essential objectives indicated; suggested instructional practices; list of suggested resources; list of evaluation and suggested minimum performance standards, with core/essential objectives indicated; and performance record, with core/essential objectives indicated. A checklist for each course combining all unit performance standards into a single list is included. (YLB) |
